Abusive men not getting strong enough sentences

If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?

Yes I’m a mystery podcast listener and I stay on top of crime in our town. I would like that women who are being raped or in abusive marriages had a stronger voice. That they would be treated as human and not someone who maybe deserved what they got! As I read and listen to these stories and podcasts the common denomination is light sentences. Especially for beating up women. The man will be sentenced for 1 or 2 years. Gets out, does it again, and maybe the sentence gets a little longer but once they get the woman gets murdered. Of course it’s more in depth than this but I would work on the law regarding sentencing rapists and abusers.
